Almería combines a historic city with access to a striking, comparatively arid coastal landscape beyond it. It is a useful choice if you want cultural sightseeing as well as a more outdoors-focused excursion, but those experiences need separate planning. The city’s fortress and cathedral give it a strong identity before you venture towards the coast of Cabo de Gata.
The Alcazaba of Almería is the principal hilltop landmark, bringing fortified walls and broad views into your introduction to the city. Almería Cathedral offers another substantial historic stop, with a notably fortified appearance.
Cabo de Gata opens the visit into a wider protected coastal landscape of headlands, beaches and volcanic scenery. It is not simply a city-centre attraction to add between two monuments: choose a particular area and check how to reach it. Keeping city and coast on separate outings allows both to make an impression.
