The Venetian Harbour is the natural introduction, with its waterfront buildings and lighthouse setting shaping the town's best-known view. Chania Old Town rewards turning away from that frontage into smaller streets, where shops, courtyards and places to eat offer a more intimate scale.
Nea Chora Beach adds a coastal option outside the central harbour scene, useful when you want an easier day without a major journey across Crete. These areas let you shape a varied stay around town walks and seaside time. Do not feel obliged to turn every morning into a distant excursion.
How to enjoy your time here
Compare an old-town address with beachside accommodation and check the approach for luggage, parking and steps. A few town-focused days can include the harbour, lanes and a beach afternoon without much rushing. For wider western Crete outings, investigate the actual journey and return arrangements. Keep at least one evening free to enjoy Chania after the main sightseeing of the day is finished.
