Corfu

Corfu brings green island scenery together with a capital that feels quite different from the whitewashed villages associated with the Cyclades. Venetian influences shape parts of the old town, while the coastline offers resort areas and smaller bays with contrasting atmospheres. It works well for a holiday that mixes town visits with time on the water or at the beach. Your base makes a real difference: the island's sights are not all clustered around one central resort.

A closer look

Find your own rhythm in Corfu.

Corfu Old Town is worth exploring on foot, with narrow streets, arcades and open spaces that invite a stop between landmarks. The Old Fortress adds a strong sense of the town's defensive history and its relationship with the sea. Check the walking conditions before planning a visit.

Paleokastritsa gives you a different island perspective, with a coastal setting of bays and hillside views. Treat it as a separate outing from the capital. Together, these places offer an introduction that moves beyond a single beach while still leaving room for an easy holiday pace.

How to enjoy your time here

Choose a town or resort base according to how often you want to travel. Compare the arrival journey and the route to your favourite coastal area, rather than relying on island-wide descriptions. Give the old town a proper half-day or longer if museums and fortresses interest you. Confirm local bus or driving arrangements before committing to a string of beaches in one day.

Walking & access planning

We have not yet added a destination-specific official access resource to this guide. This does not mean the destination is unsuitable. Ask the accommodation, transport operator and each attraction about the exact access features you need.

A guide or accessible feature does not establish access for the whole trip. Confirm doorways, steps, gradients, walking distances, bathrooms, lifts, transfers and any assistance directly with the relevant provider.
