Girona

Girona’s appeal lies in the way its old streets rise and fold around historic buildings, while the river gives the city a bright and distinctive edge. It is a place for exploring on foot, provided you allow for steps and slopes. A short break here can combine substantial architecture with the simple pleasure of turning down another narrow lane.

A closer look

Find your own rhythm in Girona.

Girona Cathedral dominates its part of the old town and makes an imposing starting point for a historic walk. The Jewish Quarter is more intimate, rewarding a slow route through lanes rather than a hurried search for one viewpoint. Along the Onyar River, the waterside buildings create a different visual character and give you room to look back at the centre. Move between these settings at an easy pace, leaving time to stop in a square or follow an inviting side street.

How to enjoy your time here

Leave time for the lanes and steps around the old town. Compare accommodation by the real walking route from your arrival point, especially with heavy luggage. An overnight stay or longer lets you enjoy the centre beyond a brief excursion. Keep a museum or leisurely meal in reserve if the weather changes your outdoor plans.

Walking & access planning

We have not yet added a destination-specific official access resource to this guide. This does not mean the destination is unsuitable. Ask the accommodation, transport operator and each attraction about the exact access features you need.

A guide or accessible feature does not establish access for the whole trip. Confirm doorways, steps, gradients, walking distances, bathrooms, lifts, transfers and any assistance directly with the relevant provider.
