Olympos is the village many travellers associate with Karpathos, known for its hillside setting and the importance of local traditions. Visit respectfully and give the streets time beyond a quick photograph. Pigadia, the island's main town and port, provides a more everyday waterfront atmosphere with places to eat and a useful base for arrangements.
Apella Beach brings a different attraction through its bay and surrounding landscape. These three stops reveal the island's range, but also the journeys involved. Treat a village excursion and a beach outing as separate plans unless your route genuinely supports combining them.
How to enjoy your time here
Check transport and the actual road journey to northern villages before making commitments. Beach access may involve more than simply driving to a point on the map, so confirm the approach and conditions. A port-town stay and a smaller resort base offer different evening routines. Leave flexibility for weather-sensitive boat plans and avoid filling your arrival or departure day with a distant excursion.
