Kos

Kos combines a lively main town with beach resorts, archaeological remains and smaller inland villages. It is a good fit for visitors who want the option of a simple seaside holiday without giving up history or a change of scenery. The island's identity is closely linked with Hippocrates and the ancient world, but the day-to-day appeal also comes from harbour walks and long meals. Compare individual resort locations rather than expecting every base to feel the same.

A closer look

Find your own rhythm in Kos.

Kos Town brings together the harbour, different architectural periods and visible traces of the island's past. Spend time wandering rather than moving straight between headline stops. The Asklepion, outside town, introduces an ancient sanctuary associated with healing and deserves a more focused visit.

Zia offers a different perspective inland, with village streets and elevated views. These three places create a useful balance between coastal town life, archaeology and the island interior. Check the journeys between them and avoid arranging the village visit as an afterthought at the end of an already crowded day.

How to enjoy your time here

Decide whether your holiday revolves around the town, a particular beach or a resort with facilities close at hand. Investigate cycling or local transport only against the routes you actually intend to use. Leave room for a relaxed coastal day between outings. The Asklepion involves outdoor sightseeing, so check current visiting arrangements and choose a pace that suits the conditions.

Walking & access planning

We have not yet added a destination-specific official access resource to this guide. This does not mean the destination is unsuitable. Ask the accommodation, transport operator and each attraction about the exact access features you need.

A guide or accessible feature does not establish access for the whole trip. Confirm doorways, steps, gradients, walking distances, bathrooms, lifts, transfers and any assistance directly with the relevant provider.
