Mytilene introduces the island through a busy harbour city with historic buildings, shops and places to eat. Molyvos provides a different setting in the north, where stone buildings climb towards a castle above the coast.
The Petrified Forest adds an entirely different perspective through the island's ancient volcanic landscape and fossilised trees. It deserves a dedicated outing with its own access research. These three places illustrate Lesvos's variety, but also its scale: they are better used to shape an itinerary than assembled into a rushed one-day route across the island.
