Lisbon
Lisbon rises above the Tagus in a patchwork of hills, tiled buildings and neighbourhood streets. Its appeal comes from both the broad waterfront and the intimate lanes where the city slows down. It is a good choice for travellers who like food, views and unhurried exploring, provided they leave room for the climbs between one area and the next.

Alfama invites a slower walk through narrow streets and small squares. Belém makes a separate outing, bringing monumental architecture and a different riverside setting. Praça do Comércio opens the centre towards the water with a grand public square. These areas work best as distinct pieces of the trip, with time for a meal or a pause along the way.
How to enjoy your time here
Allow for hills when choosing accommodation and estimating walking distances. Plan Belém separately from a day exploring the oldest central neighbourhoods. Public transport can help with longer journeys, but check the route rather than assuming every connection is direct. Leave space to revisit a favourite viewpoint or find a neighbourhood restaurant.

Walking & access planning
We have not yet added a destination-specific official access resource to this guide. This does not mean the destination is unsuitable. Ask the accommodation, transport operator and each attraction about the exact access features you need.
A guide or accessible feature does not establish access for the whole trip. Confirm doorways, steps, gradients, walking distances, bathrooms, lifts, transfers and any assistance directly with the relevant provider.
