Milos

Milos stands out for its volcanic scenery, where pale rock, coloured cliffs and small fishing settlements give different stretches of coast very different characters. It is an island for travellers who enjoy landscapes as much as a conventional beach day. Photographs are an enticing starting point, but wind, sea conditions and access determine what works during your stay. Choose a sensible base, stay flexible and let a few well-planned outings show you the island's contrasts.

A closer look

Find your own rhythm in Milos.

Sarakiniko is the striking pale-rock landscape that appears in many images of Milos. Explore with care and treat it as a coastal environment rather than assuming it behaves like a sheltered sandy beach. Plaka offers village streets and elevated views, providing a land-based contrast to the shoreline.

Klima brings another distinctive scene through its colourful waterfront boat houses. Respect homes and working spaces while enjoying the setting. These three places show why Milos rewards more than one style of outing: a landscape visit, a village walk and a quieter look at coastal life.

How to enjoy your time here

Check the actual approach to beaches and viewpoints before setting out, and keep boat excursions flexible around conditions. Choose accommodation based on the port, village or coastal area that best supports your plans. Do not schedule all your priority coastal visits for one day with no alternative. Leave a village outing available when wind changes which side of the island is comfortable to explore.
