Nafplio
Nafplio combines a handsome old town with a setting on the Argolic Gulf. Balconied houses, small squares and fortress views make it an appealing place to slow down after bigger archaeological excursions in the Peloponnese. It has the feel of a coastal town rather than a purpose-built resort, with plenty to enjoy simply by walking and stopping along the waterfront. The surrounding hills add drama, but also make location important when choosing where to stay.

Palamidi stands high above the town, offering a sense of the defensive landscape as well as views over the gulf. Check the approach and physical demands before deciding how to visit.
Back below, Nafplio Old Town rewards an unhurried route through its squares, lanes and cafés; it is worth allowing time without a fixed list. Bourtzi, the small fortress on an islet offshore, supplies the distinctive seafront view. Whether you see it from the promenade or investigate a visit, it helps explain why the harbour is such a central part of Nafplio's identity.
How to enjoy your time here
A short stay works well when fortress sightseeing is balanced with slower time in town. Plan Palamidi separately from a long afternoon of walking, particularly if steps or heat affect your pace. Compare an old-town base with parking, luggage access and waterfront convenience. If adding wider Peloponnese trips, check the actual journeys and keep one evening for Nafplio itself.
