Rhodes

Rhodes makes it easy to combine a beach holiday with a strong sense of history. The medieval streets of its capital, the white buildings of Lindos and a long resort coastline offer very different settings within one island. Decide whether you want to step out into an old town or wake up close to the beach before comparing stays. A little time beyond your resort reveals why Rhodes appeals to visitors with quite different holiday priorities.

A closer look

Find your own rhythm in Rhodes.

Rhodes Old Town is the natural starting point for atmospheric lanes, defensive walls and the legacy of the Knights of Saint John. The Palace of the Grand Master gives that history a more focused setting, and can sit within a slower day exploring the surrounding streets.

Lindos Acropolis is a separate excursion, rising above the village and sea. The climb and exposed setting mean it is worth planning the visit carefully. Rather than rushing between the capital and Lindos, give each its own time and leave room to enjoy the streets below the principal landmarks.

How to enjoy your time here

Choose your base around the side of the island and the places you actually want to visit. A beach resort can suit restful days but may add transport to historic sightseeing. Check admission arrangements and walking demands for the acropolis and palace. Build in unplanned time by the coast so the holiday does not become a checklist of excursions.

Make the plan fit your party

Solo travellers can start with one main activity and time to explore. Couples can keep a free evening in the plan. Families can build in shorter outings and breaks. Groups should agree a few shared priorities and check room and transport arrangements together.

Walking & access planning

We have not yet added a destination-specific official access resource to this guide. This does not mean the destination is unsuitable. Ask the accommodation, transport operator and each attraction about the exact access features you need.

A guide or accessible feature does not establish access for the whole trip. Confirm doorways, steps, gradients, walking distances, bathrooms, lifts, transfers and any assistance directly with the relevant provider.
