Rome

Rome layers ancient remains, lively streets, churches and everyday neighbourhood life into one absorbing city. The famous monuments are worth planning for, but so are the moments between them: a piazza, a long lunch or an evening walk. It rewards curiosity and patience more than a crowded timetable, with something interesting around almost every corner.

A closer look

Find your own rhythm in Rome.

The Colosseum gives a powerful introduction to the scale of ancient Rome. Nearby, the Roman Forum turns the focus to the public and political heart of the ancient city; allow time to understand what you are seeing. The Pantheon offers a different architectural experience, with its great dome and changing interior light. Treat these as substantial visits, not just photographs.

How to enjoy your time here

Group the ancient sites into a manageable day and leave another stretch of time for the historic centre. Cobbles, uneven surfaces and exposed archaeological areas can be tiring, so plan breaks. Check current entry arrangements for each site and allow a buffer between reservations. A nearby café stop can improve a busy sightseeing day.

START EXPLORING

Three places for your shortlist. Check current access, opening arrangements and suitability before making firm plans.

A sensible starting point

Make the trip work for you.

Choose your base

Plan the major ancient sites together and leave breathing room between timed visits.

Build a manageable route

Use Colosseum as one anchor for your plans, then decide how Roman Forum and Pantheon fit the time you have. Group nearby stops and leave room for meals and the journeys between them.

Compare the whole cost

Add accommodation, travel, local transport and your chosen activities before comparing options. Read the room details and cancellation terms, and check what any package includes.

Keep exploring

Find more local inspiration through Italy’s official tourism portal. Confirm entry arrangements and transport with the relevant attraction or operator before booking.

Make the plan fit your party

Solo travellers can start with one main activity and time to explore. Couples can keep a free evening in the plan. Families can build in shorter outings and breaks. Groups should agree a few shared priorities and check room and transport arrangements together.

Walking & access planning

We have not yet added a destination-specific official access resource to this guide. This does not mean the destination is unsuitable. Ask the accommodation, transport operator and each attraction about the exact access features you need.

A guide or accessible feature does not establish access for the whole trip. Confirm doorways, steps, gradients, walking distances, bathrooms, lifts, transfers and any assistance directly with the relevant provider.
