Samos

Samos combines green landscapes with archaeological heritage, harbour towns and a coastline that rewards choosing a particular area to explore. It can suit visitors who want beach days with a little more history and local character woven into the holiday. The island is associated with ancient thinkers and a long winemaking tradition, but you need not turn the stay into a formal cultural tour. Small-town walks and a relaxed waterfront meal belong in the plan too.

A closer look

Find your own rhythm in Samos.

Pythagoreio offers a harbour-town starting point where an easy coastal walk can sit alongside an interest in the island's ancient past. The Heraion of Samos gives that history a more focused setting through the remains of a sanctuary dedicated to Hera.

Allow time to understand the site rather than simply stopping for a photograph. Kokkari provides another coastal atmosphere, with a village and waterfront setting suited to a slower outing. These three places are spread across different parts of the island, so treat them as useful anchors when choosing a base and shaping your days.

How to enjoy your time here

Decide whether archaeological sightseeing, village life or beach access is your main priority before booking accommodation. Check journeys between the towns and sanctuary using current local transport information or a realistic driving plan. Keep a quieter day near your base between longer outings. If adding walks inland, choose marked routes that match your ability and obtain current advice on conditions and access.

START EXPLORING

Three places for your shortlist. Check current access, opening arrangements and suitability before making firm plans.

A sensible starting point

Make the trip work for you.

Choose your base

Compare the island’s towns with the coastal area you want to explore.

Build a manageable route

Use Pythagoreio as one anchor for your plans, then decide how Heraion of Samos and Kokkari fit the time you have. Group nearby stops and leave room for meals and the journeys between them.

Compare the whole cost

Add accommodation, travel, local transport and your chosen activities before comparing options. Read the room details and cancellation terms, and check what any package includes.

Make the plan fit your party

Solo travellers can start with one main activity and time to explore. Couples can keep a free evening in the plan. Families can build in shorter outings and breaks. Groups should agree a few shared priorities and check room and transport arrangements together.

Walking & access planning

We have not yet added a destination-specific official access resource to this guide. This does not mean the destination is unsuitable. Ask the accommodation, transport operator and each attraction about the exact access features you need.

A guide or accessible feature does not establish access for the whole trip. Confirm doorways, steps, gradients, walking distances, bathrooms, lifts, transfers and any assistance directly with the relevant provider.
